[ISEA2016] Introduction: Olli Tapio Leino — Intro to the Final Programme

Introductory Statement

For this year’s ISEA, we have put together an intense programme spanning a range of venues across the city, including a conference with keynotes, panels, and parallel sessions, a juried exhibition, performances and events in public space, and a range of satellite exhibits and parallel events. The conference programme includes Artist / Work-in-Progress talks in addition to peer-reviewed paper presentations and panels, to secure a platform also for those research/creation endeavors that do not conform to traditional academic formats. The fusion of artistic and scholarly enquiry at the heart of ISEA is reflected as well in our experimental scheduling of performances in the auditorium directly preceding the keynotes on Thursday and Friday. To ensure that every participant at ISEA2016 feels fully comfortable, we have introduced a Code of Conduct, which you can find at the end of this booklet. With this density of activities, the days will be long, and intellectual and nutritional sustenance may need to occur simultaneously. But rest assured that ISEA2016 will take you to some very interesting places in the days and nights of this week, conceptually as well as geographically.

On behalf of the Organising Committee, a heartfelt welcome to ISEA2016!
