[ISEA95] Artist Statement: Ned Bouhalassa – Fantasia

Artist Statement

Concert

In the form of a triptych, this piece presents two fantasies on mechanical movement (Move) and on the working of our imagination (Syntasia). Fantasia was realised at the Squeeze studio and at Concordia University, with the help of grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Quebec, and the Canada Council. The piece was commissioned by (‘Association pour la creation et la recherche en electroacoustic du Quebec (ACREQ).

  • Ned Bouhalassa (France/Canada) is a Montreal composer born in France. He is permanently bitten by the acousmatic bug which makes him create soundscapes using of unfinished gestures that are completed in the imagination of the listener. Interested in Ambient-Chill music, he has recently founded the group Womb and is planning a collaboration with the American group Sound Traffic Control. A composer of music for film and television, he teaches at Montreal’s Concordia University and is a member of CEC (Canadian Electroacoustic Community).
