[ISEA95] Artist Statement: Agostino Discipio — Hybris

Artist Statement

Concert

Hybris is a work scored for g-flute, bass clarinet and Kyma/Capybara, a real-time DSP system. Each of three parts represents a different sonic environment emerging from algorithms which transform the instrumental sounds. Especially relevant is the processing technique of real-time polyphonic time-shifting. The performance is a process of exploration by means of which an actual shape is given to only a subset of the potential emerging musical properties, while other unheard possibilities remain submerged in the realm of the virtually available.

  • Agostino Discipio (Italy). Born in Naples (1962), he studied at the Conservatory of L’Aquila (Italy), and received a diploma in composition, electroacoustic music and musical aesthetics. He is currently working at SACMUS Academy, Helsinki and regularly works at the Laboratorio Musica & Sonologia, focusing on new models of sound and music and on composition theory.
