[ISEA96] Panel: Inter-Society board — Annual General Meeting

Panel Statement

ISEA96 ended with the AGM, in which ISEA97 (Chicago, USA) was announced and Liverpool and Manchester (UK) informed the delegates of their plans for ISEA98.

ISEA started in the Netherlands (1988 Utrecht, 1990 Groningen) and since then, its continued occurence has been co-ordinated from the Netherlands, taking a formal shape by the founding of the Inter-Society for the Electronic Arts in 1990. ISEA’s ‘HQ’ has been a volunteer affair during all that time, no funding, except for modest membershipfees (that went to the acquisition of stamps for snail-mailing regular ISEA Newsletters), was ever available. At ISEA96, however, the organisers of ISEA95 announced the move of ISEA HQ from Rotterdam to Montreal, Canada, where material support is becoming available through the Daniel Langois Foundation. Daniel Langois is one of the founders of Soft Image.

They distributed a flyer with the following text:

The Inter-Society for the Electronic Arts
Founded in 1990, the Inter-Society for the Electronic Arts (ISEA) is an umbrella organization whose membership consists of a wide range of electronic art institutes and organizations, as well as individuals -artists, scientists and other interested parties. ISEA brings them together every year for the International Symposium on Electronic Art:
ISEA ’96 Rotterdam (Sept. 16-20)
ISEA ’97 Chicago
ISEA ’98 Liverpool / Manchester
After the success of ISEA95 in Montreal, the Head Quarters of the Inter-Society for the Electronic Arts are moving to Montreal (Canada), as of September 1996. One of the main goals of the new team will be to establish a continuity between the Symposiums and accrue benefits to members.
As a member you get:
• An opportunity to build together and develop the future of the Electronic Art Network through the “Molecular Territory”, an innovative Web environment containing:
A “meeting unit” where multi-disciplinary performers and critics can confront and exchange about their universes.
A showroom representative of emergent new technologies.
An active “members only” room.
More features “Under Construction” soon to be available.
• A discount for the International Symposium on Electronic Art; the ISEA Newsletter; and many other advantages…
