[ISEA2008] Panel: ASEF, IFACCA &ISEA2008 — Ludic Times: the Art of Gaming

Panel Statement

6th Asia-Europe Art Camp. In-Conjunction Session

The 6th Asia-Europe Art Camp is organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) in conjunction with the International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA2008). With a focus on the creative process rather than the “artistic product”, the Camp is designed as a learning experience and an opportunity for professional development. Through an intensive week of workshops, lectures, meetings as well as artistic and collaborative work, it is also a platform to promote dialogue among artists. Conceptualised around the theme of gaming, the camp will focus on the nature of our contemporary ludic culture while taking into account the psychology of and theories about gaming. Electronic games and their roles in society will be discussed as well as the possibilities for Asia-Europe game development collaborations.
20 young artists from 16 ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) countries will meet at this Camp. A team of Asia-Europe artistic advisors and resource persons specialised in art and technology will lead and facilitate the workshops during the camp. • The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) advances mutual understanding and collaboration between the people of Asia and Europe through intellectual. cultural, and people-to-people exchanges. These exchanges include conferences, lecture tours. work shops. seminars and the use of web-based platforms. The major achievement of ASEF is the establishment of permanent bi-regional networks focussed on areas and Issues that help to strengthen Asia-Europe relations. Established in February 1997 by the partners of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), ASEF reports to a board of governors representing the ASEM partners. ASEF is the only permanent physical institution of the ASEM process. Since 1997. the Foundation has initiated projects engaging 14.000 individuals from Asia and Europe. ASEF works in partnership with other public institutions and civil society actors to ensure its work is broad-based and balanced among the partner countries.    asef.org
