A very warm welcome to Dortmund for ISEA2010 RUHR! Our city is very pleased that we are able, in co-operation with Essen and Duisburg, to host ISEA this year. Here the Hartware MedienKunstVerein (HMKV) has been resident since 1996 and has since played a key role in making Dortmund an important centre for media art in Germany. As the driving force behind
the medienwerk.nrw and as the supporting institution for ISEA2010, the HMKV is a cornerstone of media art in the Ruhr region and the city is very appreciative of that. In 2010 the HMKV moves into the Dortmunder U, the new centre for art and creativity in Rheinische Straße. There is space for regular exhibitions and the opportunity to work with interesting partners such as the Museum Ostwall, the Research Institute for Moving Image Studies of the University of
Applied Sciences and Arts Dortmund, the Technical University with research projects on the creative industries and with the Centre for Cultural Education, together facing the task of
producing, presenting and communicating art and culture in the digital age. The Dortmunder
U stands for change – the listed brewery tower, a city landmark, is now set up to deal with issues of art, creativity, education, research and the promotion of creative economies. We are
looking forward to seeing you in Dortmund and wish you an inspiring week.
- Jörg Stüdemann, Councillor for Cultural Affairs, City of Dortmund
