[ISEA2023] Paper: Petra Gemeinboeck & Rob Saunders — Hybrid Entanglements: a posthuman dramaturgy for human-robot relationships

Abstract

Full Paper. Theme: Robots – Expanded Corporalities Sub theme: Symbiotic Imaginaries

This paper introduces our collaborative Machine Movement Lab project harnessing movement to bodily empathise with abstract machines. It discusses our transdisciplinary performance-making practice and its diffractive posthuman dramaturgical frame for exploring and improvising with alternative human-robot relationships.

  • Petra Gemeinboeck’s and Rob Saunders’ collaborative research practice seeks to expand and trouble our relations with machines and explore questions of embodiment, performativity, agency, and creativity. Petra is an ARC Future Fellow and Associate Professor at CTMT, Swinburne University, AU, and leads the ‘Dancing with the Nonhuman’ project at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, AT. https://www.impossiblegeographies.net
  • Rob Saunders is Associate Professor at LIACS, University of Leiden, NL, where his research is in computational creativity and creative robotics. Their works have been shown internationally, including at Ars Electronica, AT; International Triennial of New Media Art, NAMOC, CN; GOMA, AU; and FACT, UK. https://www.robsaunders.net
