[ISEA2023] Curators Statement: Vincent Auvray & Michaël Borras (curators) — Revolution V52

Curators Statement

Exhibition at Digitale Zone, Marseille and Musée Dehors (Museum Outside), Caen, June 1, 2022 – June 1, 2023

Revolution V52 is a one-year world tour which presents, in 52 weeks, 52 artists and 52 works. Its ambition is to offer a global panorama of visual digital creation. This digital odyssey will be broadcast in public spaces in Caen and Marseille.

The exhibition tool that we are proposing in Caen and Marseille profoundly modifies the codes of the exhibition, the connected screen does not require the transport of works, no assembly, no dismantling, it makes it possible to invite artists from all over the world, it constitutes a research tool on the distribution of dematerialized works.

Moreover, its focus on the public space allows the greatest number of people to become familiar with contemporary creation.

Through an intriguing mise en abyme effect, the works and artists of the virtual globe appear in the public space.

Given the flexibility of this tool and the artistic abundance on the web, further accentuated by the arrival of the NFT, we wanted to be at the technological and artistic rendezvous by proposing to the public one exhibition per week for a year, i.e. 52 works and 52 artists presented.

The ambition is to offer a worldwide panorama of digital creation, which will show a variety of aesthetics and practices in a transversal approach: digital arts, experimental cinema, video games, virtual reality, design, etc.

In addition to disseminating the works in the public space, we carry out weekly editorial work on social networks. This allows us to communicate weekly on the exhibitions but also to share information with the general public: biography of the artist, note on the work presented, useful links.

Design, artistic direction: Vincent Auvray, associate curator: Michaël Borras.
