[ISEA2022] Paper: Dejan Grba — The Cabinet of Wolfgang von Kempelen: AI Art and Creative Agency

Abstract

June 10, Remote Presentation.

As part of a broader critical framework of Al art, this paper discusses Al art practices that explore the notions of creative agency, authenticity, authorship, intellectual property, and labor.
It addresses the conceptual, expressive, and ethical aspects of these practices, focusing on works that exemplify poetic complexity and manifest the epistemic or political ambiguities indicative of Al science, technology, and business.
By tracing these ambiguities, it outlines the possible directions to tackle the challenges, and advance the field with respect to the artists’ increasing responsibility for changing ecologies, shaping cultural values, and political normalization.
