[ISEA2012] Artist Talk: Marten Berkman – THE ECOLOGY OF PERCEPTION: REMOTE SENSIBILITY

Artist Statement

A variation on “remote sensing,” which is the acquisition of quantitative data from remote locations, Remote Sensibility is the acquisition and interpretation of qualitative “information” about the arctic and subarctic where I live. Using primarily digital image devices and computing media, my work explores blurring the boundaries between contemporary urban industrial humans and the remote lands of which we are a part. Digital photo and video collage, web transfer of visual data, stereoscopic video installation become the palette that reflects many layers of relationship, contradiction and meaning.
