Artist Statement

Generative Film 2009

The Snail on the Slope is a film, based on a novel by the Strugatsky brothers, that was generated with the computer programming language Processing. The story is set on an unknown planet where humans are trying to conquer the Forest. The Forest, which is a huge single organism, is constantly changing and fighting back. All scenes were created as abstractions and visualisations of the atmospheres in which all the action takes place.

• Vladimir Todorovic (RS/SG), 1977, studied visual arts at the University of the Arts in Belgrade and at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Currently, he is working as Assistant Professor at the School of Art, Design and Media, NTU, Singapore. He co-founded the new media art collective called SYNTFARM based in Singapore and the Institute for Flexible Cultures and Technologies ‘NAPON’ in Serbia. His research and art practice focus on generative art forms as novel approaches in new media art and design. His projects have been presented at numerous international festivals and exhibitions. At ISEA 2008 he served as the chair of the ‘Ludic Interfaces’ theme.
