[ISEA2010] Artist Statement: Krists Pudzens – Nucleus

Artist Statement

Nucleus is a kinetic interactive sculpture that searches location-specific internet news and commentary for keywords defined by the artist, in order to visualize the social and economic state of society. Through high-speed rotation, a line of light emitting diodes is transformed into a three-dimensional body. It changes its form with every incoming internet report and represents the continuous information flow in digital media.

Krists Pudzens (LV) graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia Sculpture Department, and is based in Riga. For the past six years he has explored the field of interactive and electronic art. His study is directed towards sculpture and the conceptual language of three dimensional forms, using a mix of many artistic and industrial techniques. His focus is on the physical form of a sculpture enlivened by mechanics combined with algorithmic intelligence. He has participated in the arts and technology festivals Amber (2008 + 2009, Turkey) and PixelACHE2010, Helsinki (Finland).
