[ISEA2015] Artist Statement: Ana Carolina von Hertwig — Unfinished Business

Artist Statement

Keywords: Transmedia installation, non-linear storytelling, hybrid art

Unfinished Business is a self-analytical hybrid art-work which adapts and shares personal stories in an unknown territory. This environment, a transmedia installation, is conceived as a dynamic multi-layered, multi-platform media diary designed to immerse the public in an intimate narrative in which they actively participate in the evolution of an unwritten non-linear story employing methods that juxtapose complementary technologies and presentation formats.
The project is composed of a small-structure installation including a web-platform, a double-screen projection and an unconventional book format. Concretely, Unfinished Business gathers together films, still pictures, projections, texts and soundscapes in a multi-layered environment employing diverse supports. The public experiences the installation as a non-linear adventure via the juxtaposition of the audio-visual projection, the web-based environment and the interactive media book made up of envelopes with diverse texts and images containing smartphone-scannable QR Codes to audio and gif information. The installation is designed to incite reflection and provoke discomfort about the doubts and fears that often characterize self-image and group relationships in contemporary urban environments. anacarolinavonhertwig.com/hertwig-unfinished-business
