[ISEA2010] Introduction: ISEA2010 Organisers – ISEA2010 Excursion Programme

Introductory Statement

On Wednesday, 25 August, ISEA2010 RUHR presents an extensive excursion programme. The conference programme pauses for the day to offer all participants the opportunity to take part in these excursions, and visit some of the most interesting museums and exhibitions in the
region. There is also the option to go on a tour around the Ruhr area. Our co-operation partners at each destination are looking forward to welcoming and providing you with an absorbing day!

  1. Tour Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum, Paderborn
The Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum in Paderborn is the largest computer museum in the world. The permanent exhibition, which extends across 6,000 square metres of floor space, is a journey in time through the history, present and future of information technology, from cuneiform script through to the internet and robotics. The Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum aims to offer its visitors a ‘hands-on’ experience. Currently the special exhibition “The Adventure of Computer Science”, the photo exhibition “The Algorithmic Character of Our World” and a presentation on Konrad Zuse are on view alongside the permanent exhibition
  2. Tour Edith Russ Site for Media Art, Oldenburg
The Edith Russ Site for Media Art presents and discusses the world’s increasing digitalisation and virtualisation and the influence New Media have on our lives. In addition to its temporary exhibition programme, the Edith Russ Site for Media Art with its international stipend programme has become known as place of art production. About the tour: After an introduction to the activities and objectives of the institution, there is a guided tour of the exhibition “My War: Participation in an Age of Conflict”. In the afternoon a visit to Paul DeMarinis’ audio installation “Rain Dance” in the Oldenburg city centre is organised. Afterwards there is an opportunity to either take a guided tour of Oldenburg, or enjoy the city at your leisure.
  3. Tour Museum Ludwig, Cologne Köln
Museum Ludwig unveils for the first time its complete collection of film and video works. Pieces from 1958 to 2010 tell of not only the history of the moving image in art, but also the multifarious inspiration provided by film. 270 works are on view at video consoles; 55 installations that extend into the third dimension are presented. All the important figures of the art form are represented: Aernout Mik, Janet Cardiff, Mike Kelley and, of course, Nam June Paik. About the tour: An introduction to and tour of the exhibition “Moving Images: Artists and Video/Film” by curator Dr. Barbara Engelbach; an opportunity to see the permanent collection. With: Dr. Barbara Engelbach, museenkoeln.de/museum-ludwig
  4. Tour Animax, Bonn
Two of the main focuses of Animax are the creation and application of aesthetic perception and game environments by means of multimodal interaction technologies. Collaborative motion- and group-oriented projects are being increasingly accepted by children, parents and teachers. Combining motion- and perceptual components has a profoundly positive effect on motivation, cognition and social behaviour. In the ‘flow’ of community action, the children develop the ability to observe, organise, and memorise details and to experience spontaneous joy in intellectual tasks. The installations “Audiodome Playground” and “Audiodome SoundBlox” – a work developed with the Ambient Intelligence Group at CITEC, Bielefeld University – are being shown. With: Dr. Bodo Lensch, Till Bovermann, Rene Tünnermann, Sven Hahne,  animax.de
  5. Tour Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten, Marl & kitev, Oberhausen
The tour visits the Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten in Marl and the art initiative kitev in Oberhausen. The museum Glaskasten presents sculptures from the 20th century to the
present. In addition, it has been deeply involved with media art for many years. Currently the exhibition “German Sound Art Award 2010” is running. kitev – Kultur im Turm e.V. is a laboratory for unusual interventions based in the old water tower adjacent to Oberhausen’s central railway station. The water tower is an incubator and venue for art activities and
serves as the first point of contact for project-related stays in the region.  With: Dr. Karl-Heinz Brosthaus (Skulpturenmuseum), Christoph Stark & Sandro Catallo (kitev)
  6. Tour Eindhoven & Brabant (The Netherlands)
BALTAN Laboratories, an art and technology lab Tour Eindhoven & Brabant in Eindhoven (nl), hosts an excursion during which participants are introduced to the world-renowned history and contemporary context of innovation and creativity of the Brabant region. Presentations by a diverse group of organisations working in the field of art, culture and technology, and tours of local landmarks such as Strijp-S – a former industrial area of Philips undergoing redevelopment that spans over 66 acres – are some of the highlights. In collaboration with 2018Brabant Cultural Capital of Europe | Candidate. BALTAN Laboratories hosts the conference panel “The Future of the Lab”. BALTAN Laboratories are also featured at the E-Culture Fair 2010. With: Angela Plohmann. 2018brabant.eu
