[ISEA2015] Artist Statement: Chiara Passa – EXTEMPORARY LAND ART ON GOOGLE EARTH (2014-2015)

Artist Statement

Net-art/AR (2014)

Extemporary Land Art on Google Earth presents a new series of Net-AR artworks created and usable exclusively on Google Earth. The works, Augmented Forces on Google Earth, Augmented Sky-Trip on Google Earth – the Strawberry Ice Storm, Augmented Cave – the Dispersed Parthenon, and Augmented Desert – the Liquid Gale, are a series of site-specific artworks that aim to create virtual land art. The works construct a sort of mise en abyme or droste effect in which one element shifts the other in depth. This merges the Google Earth environment with the augmented area in order to create a new space.

  • Artist and professor Chiara Passa graduated from the Artistic Lyceum at the Fine Arts Academy of Rome, Italy, and earned a Master’s degree in new audio-visual mediums at the Faculty of Modern Literature. Her artwork combines different media as internet art projects, animations, interactive video-installations, and digital art in public space as site-specific artworks and videosculptures. Passa has exhibited internationally at festivals, conferences and institutions including Vortex Dome, LA (2014), RENEW Conference, Riga (2013), ISEA2012 Albuquerque, FILE, São Paulo (2011), Soft Borders Conference, São Paulo (2011), and Artech, Portugal (2010).
